How to Experience Life to the Fullest

Before The Bucket List came out in 2007, I had read somewhere that everyone should create a list of 100 things to experience before they die. I made my original list which had about 45 items. By the time I misplaced this list, I had realized that writing down what I wanted to do urged me to take risks and try some new things.

Over the years, I have written been several variations of the original list, and all have had quite a few items checked off. For example, I remember going for sushi with my friend, Tad. I was stuffed, but the server told us dessert came with the meal—I accepted because I’d written “try green tea ice cream” on my list weeks earlier, and that’s what the server offered. I can’t say I’ve come across that flavour since. If I hadn’t written it down, I still wouldn’t know how fabulous green tea ice cream tastes.

A Reminder to experience life

In early December 2106, I started watching the TV comedy No Tomorrow—straight-and-narrow Evie throws caution to the wind, for once, and falls for a charming thrill-seeker named Xavier who claims the Apocalypse is nigh. This show reminds me that life is short and that I should jump at opportunities when they come along. At the very least, I should make a “List of Things to Do Before I Die.” I’ve re-started my list with an item that has always been on my lists of yore. I’ve joined a pottery class—and I’m crossing #1 off my list. My list has 16 items on it. I plan to carry it around with me and write down the ideas as they come.

A reminder to set goals

Sure, some things on the list are just fun and won’t change my life–like trying green tea ice cream. But, the list will ultimately contain goals. For example, another item on my list is publishing a book-length manuscript.

What do you want to experience before you die?

What are you going to put on your list first. What would you want to do if you knew a meteor was going to strike the earth in the next year? Although this probably isn’t going to happen–anything is possible. Why not fill our lives with as many experiences as we can?

I challenge all of you to make a list. I promise that once you start paying attention to what you want to experience in your lifetime, you will start finding the opportunity to cross items off your list. And you’ll add as many as you cross off. This list can help get you started http://abucketlisttypething.tumblr.com

I also found an excellent post that discusses “bucket lists” at length. There are lots of tips and ideas presented as well: https://personalexcellence.co/blog/bucket-list/

Trust me; writing down dreams, goals and things you want to experience will change your life.
